I have stayed away from contemporary for a long time and I have no idea why. I mean I still love paranormal but my love for contemporary romance, mostly reverse harem, has grown exponentially. My recent obsession? Mia’s Men by Lucy Felthouse. Ahhhh this book is good. Let’s get into it.
Mia’s father has finally lost the battle to cancer and Mia is crushed. She is left to their huge estate by herself and has never felt so lonely. She has pretty much been running the estate single-handedly since her father started getting ill. She was under the assumption she had a pretty good handle on his father’s wishes and his will. That is until the will is read….
Her loving father has determined that Mia will receive nothing unless she gets married to a man within a year. He must be a man of status, he must take her last name so that any children they have will carry the Harrington name, and he must sign a prenuptial agreement. Think late 90s movie, The Bachelor, with Chris O’Donnell Renee Zellweger. Obviously Mia is pissed, I mean let’s be honest I’m pissed too. My inner feminist is rioting and ready to burn shit down. How on earth could her father do this to her? If she fails to do this outrageous request she loses everything. The estate, everything she has worked for, to her greedy arrogant cousin.
Mia, having been spending all her time taking care of the estate, does not have a love life. No boyfriends, no prospects, nothing. How on earth is she supposed to find a man of social standing within a year?! Only in fiction can this work. I truly hope this doesn’t happen in real life because how can anyone expect a prosperous happy marriage to happen if there are these crazy limitations put on it. Sure she has a year whereas the movie above the character had 24 hours but still. This shit should happen organically. Lucky for Mia she is able to land some pretty amazing men. Yup, men. Take that dad!
After the death of her father Mia’s eyes are open to the estate’s gardener. Never has she looked at him sexually, but once she starts she likes what she sees. Mia’s attraction to Thomas is super hot and adorable. He is completely aware of her situation and that he can’t fulfill the terms of her father’s will, he isn’t a man of social standing but that doesn’t stop their secret love affair. I mean the entire time I am picturing John Rowland from Desperate Housewives because… god.damn. #swoon
Mia meets two more of her men at a charity event she attends in honor of her father. The banter between Elias, Alex, and Mia will have you giggling like a school girl. Mia is a lot more proper than I am so I am sometimes annoyed by her rocking the boat but mostly because I don’t want the love to stop. Normally I would be cheering her independence and ability to stand up for herself. It immediately becomes clear to Mia that both guys are into her and she is into both of them. She can’t figure out who she is going to pick as they are both great candidates for husband and meet her father’s stipulations. It becomes clear through their flirty banter that Elias and Alex have a bit of a thing. They like to share women. Oh goodness, yes. Sold. During this auction Elias bids on a weekend experience with extravagant car after hearing that driving such a car is on Mia’s bucket list… He of course wins and sets up a weekend for their once in a lifetime experience. Which includes Alex and an overnight stay…. Who cares about the car, ammiright?!
After being introduced to the idea of having a harem, a la reverse harem, Mia is completely down with the idea. Um duh. She goes from single to ready to mingle. Snort. I know, that was bad. So she has Thomas her swoony gardener, Elias and Alex the rich guys that are down with sharing, what’s one more guy right?! The man with the extravagant car, Arjun, is into Mia and she also fancies him. Now she just has to figure out if Thomas is okay with sharing, Elias and Alex are okay with sharing more than just between them, and if Arjun would be down with all this craziness? I mean does this happen in real life?! #WhyChoose
I really enjoyed this book. It was really well written and had me laughing a lot. Mia is a smart independent woman that takes a shitty situation and makes it pretty damn amazing. This book feels very much like a modern day Pride and Prejudice. It really reads like Jane Austen and I love it. I like that Mia isn’t this tame woman that just rolls over for what her men want. She is very clear about what she wants and stands up for herself repeatedly. She may have been forced into a patriarchal predicament by her father but she is not retiring to be a timid housewife. I would definitely recommend this book ❤ As always, keep swooning!
Oh don’t worry… I’ll be okay… That gaping hole in my heart?! Well it happens every time I’m reading an amazing book series and go to jump into the next book only to see the word ‘Pre-Order’. WHAT THE FUCK IS A PRE-ORDER?! I know. I know. I’m being selfish. Give the author a break, give her time… October 19th is only a few weeks away. You’ll be okay… BUT WILL I?! Well how about you all swoon with me over these two amazing books I have just inhaled and you too can feel the gaping hole in your heart that a pre-order button creates as you wait for book three with me….
Yes, I have found another contemporary romance series to fall in love with. Again, WHO KNEW THERE WAS SO MUCH AMAZINGNESS IS THE CONTEMPORARY GENRE?! WHO KNEW?! Plus, ANOTHER REDHEAD! #gingersunite ♥ We have Giovanna who is just your average college student. Well maybe not so average, I would say your average college student is an semi-alcoholic who watches a lot of Adult Swim, never stops playing Call of Duty, and can’t be seen before noon. Weeeeelllll maybe that was just me. I jest. Sort of. Giovanna is adorably shy and doesn’t really have a lot of excitement in her life. That is until she is walking home alone one night during winter break. I know this sounds like it’s going to turn into a haunting story. No, she isn’t going to get kidnapped. This isn’t that kind of story. She is walking and hears someone yell ‘Hey there, library.’ She continues walking because honestly who wouldn’t. I’m not typically shy but even I would walk up to a stranger who was calling me ‘library’, that’s just rule number one in the stranger danger handbook…
Well stranger danger aside, if I turned around and Maven was trying to get my attention I would stop. Giovanna doesn’t know it yet but Maven. Yum. She does stop because she is a kind person although a little awkward. She stands there in the cold talking to Maven, Chance, and Banyan completely stunned that they know who she is and are flirting with her. It’s adorable, I see hot guys and creepy factor goes out the window. I’m surprised I haven’t been murdered yet… Getting married early probably saved me from that. I haven’t dated anyone but my husband since I was 16. Giovanna has a good sense of stranger danger though and declines their offers to go into their frat house or even to a restaurant with them. Talk about willpower. Or maybe it’s just good self-preservation.
That night things don’t go well. She wakes up to fire alarms and it is not a drill. Her dorm is on fire and she has to flee the building. Luckily, when she gets outside the three hotties from earlier are there. They being chivalrous knights came to see if any help was needed. Swoon. They sweep Giovanna off to their frat house, so she has somewhere to stay for the night. This begins something wonderfully swoonworthy, completely sexy, and just plain adorable. Being there was a fire in her dorm it is inevitably closed until school starts back up after winter break in a couple of weeks. Giovanna, Maven, Chance, and Banyan spend this whole time together making the group decision to be friends. Friends with benefits that is. None of them want relationships. Who has time for relationships with finals around the corner? Well I mean I did but… 😊
Their no-strings attached relationship brings life to Giovanna. Not that women have to be lifeless drones before they get a man in their life, get real I’m a feminist WE DON’T NEED MEN. But there is just something that love does to a person. Even if its of the no-strings attached variety. The friendship that sparks between Giovanna and these three practically brothers is adorable and hilarious. I love all the guys and their amazing personalities. I love that they all ramble and say too much. Take it from a rambler, we are just tons of fun 😉 Plus the sex is hot. H-O-T, hot. Hawt. It’s really sexy. We’ve also all seen how these no-strings attached relationships play out. Will things stick to strictly friendship with some sexy time or will these four amazing individuals fall in love? I guess you’ll just have to read it yourself. Trust me, reading these amazing books you’ll be swooning with me ❤
I feel like I have been waiting for Queen Takes Checkmate by Joely Sue Burkhart my entire life. Okay, maybe that’s excessive but I feel like it’s been a long time. She is such a freaking talented writer I fall in love with every single character each and every time I read one of the books. Like how could I love these people anymore?! She makes it happen! This is book #5 in the ‘Their Vampire Queen’ series. It’s also the BEST book in the series. I’ve said that after I finish every book in this series, but just when you think Joely can’t top her last book she does. They. Are. So. Fucking. Good. Oh! & let’s talk about that cover…. Gahhhhhh all the covers in this series are so freaking gorgeous. I mean they have to be… it’s Shara Fucking Isador. Last living descendant of Isis. SHE IS THE SHIT. Let’s get into it…..
So we are back with Shara and all her guys. You know… Rik, Daire, Guillaume, Mehen, Xin, Itztli, Tlacel, Ezra, Nevarre, and Llewellyn. I literally love them all. We don’t know a huge amount about Llewellyn since he just joined but don’t worry. He’ll have a place in your heart soon. Anyways, Shara has just taken down New York’s Aima Queen, Keisha Skye. Not only did she take her down, she drained her. So now she is this disgusting pile of nasty on the floor. Defeating Keisha and her demon child Tanza, man that child was a thing of nightmares…. Bah… I swear I picture like the grudge girl and the ring girl mixed together. Eek. 😱
Everyone is intact, and all seems to be well. Shara is of course internally freaking out because what the fuck just happened. She almost lost Rik to Tanza the freaky demon child, and everything could have went to hell in a hand-basket and she could have died. All her men could have died. It could have been disastrous. Luckily, it wasn’t because Shara Fucking Isador is a badass who ALWAYS kicks ass. I mean who else could completely drain a queen?! Shara Isador, the Queen of New York biatch. But defeating Keisha doesn’t mean that Shara and her men can just all reunite and have a sexy blood orgy does it?! Of course not.. There are some political ends that need to be tied up. Like Skye Tower is now Isador tower, badass ammirite?! All of Keisha’s Furies (what she called her Blood that consisted of all females), Sibs, and other vampire groupies have to be dealt with. So, Shara has to decide who to take on, who to set free, and who to kill.. PLUS, there is an ancient sun god mummified in the basement. No biggie… 😐
Shara adds some Sibs to her team. Gwen, who’s Blood are guys from the round table *gasp * swoon*. As well as Carys, who has a badass owl that shits all over her 🤢 & has the power to determine the probably of things/actions. Things are looking pretty good. She has to kill some of the less savory characters that were into the super psychotic shit Keisha Skye was into. She also has to make a decision about this new guy she has taken in, Llewellyn. We don’t currently know a lot about him other than he used to be one of her mother’s Blood and that Keisha Skye kept him prisoner, cut out his eyes, and kept a bad over his head. I mean we already feel sorry for the poor fellow, plus he really stepped up with helping Shara defeat Keisha. Weird thing though, he used to have sex with her mom… Soooooo…. Yeah….
Now that Skye Isador Tower has been taken care of we should be able to get back to sexy time with the guys, right?! Well, kinda. We do have some suuuuper sexy scenes. Cuz I mean Joely knows how to write the sexiest scenes known to mankind. Then we also get a NEW Blood. I know what you are thinking, how the hell am I supposed to keep track of a NEW Blood?! There are so many. Well shut your trap, there are never too many 😉 This new Blood also has some qualities that separate her from the rest of the Blood… I know, you are intrigued…
Everything can’t be all sexy time though. I know, cue booing. They also have to get rid of Ra, the sun god who they’ve been trying to get rid of for a couple of books. Plus, he just recently tried to take Xochitl, Mayte’s daughter AKA Queen of Unicorns ❤ This bastard has gots to go. There are a lot of preparations that have to go into taking out Ra because he is a fucking God which means he is obviously hard to kill. Also, there was the deal made with the Goddess, Coatlicue, that in return for the cobra that will help kill Ra that one of Shara’s Blood must die. Dear. God. No. Please. So this whole time I am freaking out trying to figure out who Joely is going to kill off…. PLEASE JOELY, PLEASE DON’T *sob* 😭
This book is so amazing. Like when I finished I didn’t know what to do with myself. How do you move on from something so perfect?! You don’t. You just don’t. So, now I have to decide whether to re-read this one of just go for the long haul and re-read the entire series again. It’s that damn good! Shara is a badass heroine that we all want in our lives. She isn’t whiny or easily pushed over. She is the Queen. She is Shara Fucking Isador. Her men are swoony, hilarious, adorable, badass, sexy, and every wonderful adjective you can think of. I honestly don’t know who I love more. Sometimes it’s Mehen because ahhhh who doesn’t love a stubborn dragon who is actually a softy. Then it’s Ezra because that sexy take no nonsense cursing like a sailor bear is just so fucking hot. Then there are Rik and Daire, the original two. So sexy, protective, and their dynamic with each other and Shara is just… Ah… Swoon. There are all amazing. ALL. This can’t be the last book. It just can’t………… This won’t be the last book.
I’m swooning over here…. Wanna join?!
I just finished another really amazing contemporary reverse harem romance! Who knew there were so many goodies out there in the contemporary genre?! WHO KNEW?! & why wasn’t I told?! Just kidding. I was probably told, but I’m stubborn and tend to stick to my ways. Well I’m glad I’ve decided to venture out because it lead me to find ‘Charmed by Them’ by Serena Akeroyd and lemme tell you… I’m charmed. Let’s. Get. Into. It. 😀 ❤
First of all, I LOVE that the MC is a red head. There is not a lot of love for us red heads in the world. Seriously. I’ve been overjoyed lately seeing so many leading ladies in my books with red hair because I was a self-hating ginger growing up. Even though I still don’t classify myself as a ginger other people do, my hair is AUBURN. But whatever. Red heads have it rough. A guy I work with, let’s call him Harry, well he also has red hair and this is something we bond over. #gingersunite Well we were talking about how growing up people would tell us that we didn’t have a soul, why you ask? Because we have red hair of course. That or we would be told that we bathe in the blood of our enemies and other random shit. Kids are mean. Anyway, so when Harry was younger a girl wrote down on a piece of paper ‘Harry’s soul’ and gave it to him since being a redhead he didn’t possess a soul. THIS IS REAL SHIT. Rant over. I really do like my red hair now. I wouldn’t say I love it but I am more self-appreciative of myself. Plus, I got my red hair from my dad who has passed away so I feel like I should love it. I do. I’m getting there.
BACK TO THE STORY AT HAND. Charmed By Them. Awesome. Our main character’s name is Sascha Dubois which is a really sexy name. Sascha. Very swoonworthy. Well Sascha interviews for a position to oversee housekeeping duties at a home in England. A home filled with 5 very hot and very intelligent men. Like not just intelligent, freaking Big Bang Theory intelligent but they are all smoking and not in the cute nerdy way, in the holy damn break me off a piece of that way. She is gorgeous and uber smart as well so she of course lands the job, which is live-in of course, and starts working with all these men. I saw with instead of for because they really welcome her in like family. It’s freaking adorable.
Well you are sitting there thinking, okay so we got our hottie female main character and she is living in the house with 5 super sexy men. THIS IS WHERE IT HAPPENS. We know this is reverse harem. Let’s get to the goods. You will not be disappointed. Of course since these guys are super smart, super successful, and very dedicated to their different careers they don’t have a lot of time for dating. They also are very close to each other and living together has worked really well since they were in college. What are these men to do for love?! We all need love! Well this is where Sascha comes in.. One of the guys, Devon, is very into the idea of finding the perfect woman for them all to share. Let’s be honest all the guys are into the idea Devon is just more vocal about it. Well the unspoken leader of the bunch, Sean, warns Sascha about this after signing a NDA (nondisclosure agreement) but before she signs her employment contract. See it’s not skeevy. He just kind of brings up the idea and says that this isn’t what is expected of her and she doesn’t have to take the job but it’s just there.
Talk about an indecent proposal. Snort. Just kidding. These guys are smoking, we would all say yes. I feel like the part that appeals to a lot of women about the reverse harem genre is that A. you get to experience several different adorable swoonworthy relationships in one book. B. there is this feeling of the woman being completely taken care of because inevitably some area that one guy would be lacking in another guy in the ‘harem’ would pick up the slack. Plus, women overall are amazing and I don’t find it hard to believe that one woman could make 5 men happy. Like I said. Women are awesome. Girls rule, boys… Okay well it’s probably just me doing the drooling. Ha!
I really really really enjoyed this book. It isn’t horribly long and you fall in love with the MC and all five guys so fast. They are really amazing. I can’t wait to jump into the next book and get to know these guys more. Plus you know #gingerpower
SWOON WITH ME, WON’T YOU?!
