Amber and her best friend Julian own the Cafe in Silver Springs, called Jewels Cafe. Amber, a chameleon shifter, and Julian, a witch with wonky magic, hide their true feelings for each other in fear that the other doesn’t reciprocate. Julian finally decides to take matters into his own hands with one spell and a Pumpkin Spice Latte to create a spark between them so that he can finally make his move.
When Amber finds herself feeling mate connections with not only her best friend but a bear shifter and a bunny shifter, it feels as if her life is teetering on the edge. Will she break the connections and lose a life that could potentially make her the happiest she’s ever been? Or will she succumb to the overwhelming love that she seems unable to fight.
This book is amazing! It’s a perfect read for the time we are living in as we are all in desperate need of something light, fluffy, swoony, and hilarious. Amber is a lovable character and her men are just the swooniest. This is definitely a book I could read again and again! Mia Harlan manages to write such amazing characters that are impossible not to love. Make sure you snatch it up now while it’s FREE! ♥️
I’m in love with my best friend. But one sip of a spelled pumpkin spice latte, and two shifters are calling me their mate…
It’s hard enough being a chameleon shifter with wonky powers, but opening Jewels Cafe with my secret crush? Maybe not the best idea. Hiding my feelings for him is getting harder and harder. And if we don’t get customers soon, our cafe will go out of business.
As a last ditch effort, we create a signature pumpkin spice drink. One taste-test and the sweetest bear shifter is drawn to me like honey. A sexy bunny shifter offers me his carrot. They don’t even seem to mind that I randomly shift (and half-shift) into everyone I meet.
But can I handle not just one mate, but three? And will we find a way to save Jewels Cafe before another spell tears us apart?

I’ve got something for you. Something amaaaazing. It starts with this cover, oh em gee. How freaking gorg is this?! I literally stared at it for like 10 minutes before I started the book and my husband was like are you going to read that or just stare at the cover? It’s soo pretty. Let’s get into it ❤
Aliens that look like aliens. That’s a thing. Never thought it’d be my thing because aliens fucking terrify me. Well… I think it’s become my thing. I had previously talked about a book called Project: Adapt – Found by Jade Waltz (which I fuggin loved – see my review here) and now I got this book. Whew! I’m swooned.
Samantha Rose makes snakes hot. Yes, snakes. Fucking alien snake people that I want to do. Sylanvus is bae. Sure it starts off a little rocky, I mean who wouldn’t run from giant snake man, but then… Oh the swoon. ❤️ Now I’m sure you are like, Julia, snakes? Come on, the only snakes I like are of the trouser variety. Well fear not cause these guys are snake-like, not the small slithery kind. More like lizard men or for my fellow nerds, like Argonians in the Elder Scrolls games.
We start off with Robyn living a typical human life. Sucky jobs, bills, all that bullshit. That is until she sees on her television that aliens have landed in her tiny town. She has feelings of excitement and a bit of fear. My ass would be all fear. Think aluminum foil hats and boarding up all my windows. I mean all these alien books I’m reading are maybe lessening that, maybe I’m heading toward the point of excitement and wanting to jump their bones. Baby steps.
Understandably the humans are freaking out about the aliens and everyone is trying to get outta town. Robyn’s friend, Tara, is ready to get the fuck outta dodge and wants Robyn to come with. Packing only essentials, Robyn prepares to leave her house and hit the road. Their road trip away from the aliens leads them… Well, right to the aliens. Not only right to the aliens but right to Robyn’s alien mate, Sylvanus. He snatches her up like any barbaric alien hit with the love bug would do and puts her on his ship. This is where everyone gets skeptical, everyone that doesn’t understand women with a sex drive. I mean if a sexy alien snatched me up, sure I’d be pissed. But also if he didn’t want to kill me, he just wanted to love me. Well sign me up for that shit. Worship me alien snake man, I am yours for the taking!
Now this book is RH, aka Reverse Harem. If this is your first trip to my blog then you should know I looooove Reverse Harem Romance books. Loooove them. You don’t have to choose. You get all the men. Enough said. So, with that being said, Robyn will be collecting some other men of the alien variety. There will also be some MM. Yum.
I don’t want to spoil anything because you all need to read this book. Now. It’s so good! The world building is awesome and the characters are so lovable. Sylvanus can be a bit barbaric at times but he is also so freaking sweet. I love finding the books with the sweet men because I just can’t get into the bully romances. I want love. I want romance. I was the mother effing swoon! Well this book has got it and I’m so excited to dive into book 2 to keep the story going! I even heard that book 3 should be dropping this summer! Squee!!
I didn’t fall into a place of wonder and madness. I was taken.
This world is a perfect, enchanting wonderland. The people here are just as alluring.
But we all have our secrets.
Like the white rabbit who’s leading a rebellion right under the King’s nose. Or the sweet March Hare who’s actually an enemy spy. Or my one true ally in all of this, a killer who’s so feared they won’t even say his real name.
As for me, I have more secrets than all of them combined. Because Wonderland is waiting for the beloved Alice Liddell.
And I’m just the bitch pretending to be her.
This is a reverse harem series, recommended for readers 18 and over.
A.K. Koonce is a USA Today best-selling author. She’s a mom by day and a fantasy and paranormal romance author by night. She keeps the fantastical stories in her mind on an endless loop, while she tries her best to focus on her actual life and not that of the spectacular but demanding fictional characters who always fill her thoughts.
Lately I have been diving deeper into the Sci-fi genre of reverse harem. I am one of the admins of an AMAZING facebook group called Reverse Harem Fantasy & Sci-fi Readers & Authors so it only makes sense that I would read more sci-fi. I recently read a book that I really enjoyed and totally out of my reading norm. Let’s get into it ❤
We have our female main character, Calpurnia, a pilot that is used to being alone. She likes it that way. If she spends her time alone then no one can hurt her. If she doesn’t let anyone close, they can’t break her heart. She has her ship, the Firebrand, and that’s all she needs thank you very much. It’s been 3 years since she found herself involved with someone else. Orion. When he left Calpurnia shut down. No boyfriend, no sister, no family.
I really enjoyed Cali as a character. She is a badass that doesn’t need anyone to make her happy. I found myself really comparing her to Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica a lot. Loneliness has become her companion and she keeps up a tough guard to keep her safe. Her heart’s safety ends when she finds a broken down ship, a ship that contains the love of her life. Orion. After a really bloody battle this man abandoned her, he created this distrustful woman she is today. His reappearance in her life throws her for a loop. Especially when she finds out that Orion’s visit isn’t a coincidence.
Cali has been given a mission for the good of the Uprising. This mission involves her being a commander of a mission to rescue someone. Her team includes: her ex Orion, who desperately wants her back; Polaris, the Mission Control work that she enjoyed teasing with her flirtatious behavior; Hamal, a sweet but sexy doctor that does crazy things to Cali’s insides; Antares, a former member of the Supremacy that she can’t decide whether to trust or not; and Rux, a damn good gunner but generally a complete asshole. Cali is pissed. She wants no part of this mission that is sure to fail with her merry band of assholes. Okay, well they aren’t all assholes. Polaris is adorable but unskilled in battle and Hamal is freaking swoonworthy. But the other guys, she is not a fan.
Cali gets forced into the mission because of circumstances beyond her control but begins plans to ditch the guys as soon as possible. She has to keep the guys off the scent of her true plans and keep them all from killing each other. She does her best to keep them in line and throw the shit right back at them when they try to undermine her. She also has to try to keep her body under control because these guys are hot. H-O-T. Plus when they start training together. Hot and sweaty bodies. Swoon. (Plus obvi Orion is Lee Adama from Battlestar Galactica – yes my obsession is real).
I really loved this book. It’s really suprising that I don’t read more sci-fi books because I obviously have a huge obsession with Battlestar Gallactica. A HUGE OBSESSION. I can’t wait for the next book to come out because I really have fallen for these relationships. There are some really good steamy scenes that I am still swooning over. I would definitely recommend this to my sci-fi lovers because it is such a good book!
I’m not crying. You’re crying. What?! WHY ARE MY EYES LEAKING?! Ugh. So I finished the last book of the Crystal Clear series by Lana Kole. It was fuggin amazing. & my heart is in pieces. I missed Mori and these guys so freaking much. Kai, Walker, Remi, Levi… Swoon… Let’s get into it ♥️
Please note that this is book three of the Crystal Clear series, if you haven’t read book 1 or 2 there are spoilers ahead.
We join the guys and Moira. Yeah, you read that right. MOIRA. Not Mori. That asshole Viggo succeeded in putting his dead wife’s soul into our girl Mori, so now we are stuck with this bitch. Okay, well maybe she isn’t a bitch. But still… We need Mori! The guys are obviously devastated and working around the clock to get Mori back. They just need to find a swytch. Moira (not a bitch, but also not Mori) is helping them find a way to get Mori back because she is not down with her crazy ex’s plans. She sees the devastation the guys are experiencing and although she does appreciate her second chance at life she knows that it isn’t fair to Mori. The POVs with the guys is heartbreaking. Literally, my heart is broken.
Meanwhile Mori is still here. She is just not here here. With Moira taking the forefront of her body, Mori is forced into the recesses of her mind. She is stuck in the darkness with no one, left screaming in fear without no one to answer her calls. It’s been months and she isn’t convinced that she was ever really alive. Maybe it was all a cruel dream. Maybe none of the guys were real. How long will she be stuck in this darkness?
Mori’s prison of darkness is only one hurdle they have to jump. We are also dealing with the missing mages and a return of Dick Holder. Even after escaping the darkness of her mind Mori has extreme problems with darkness, anxiety over what she missed, and overall fear of going back to that horrible place. Mori’s time in the dark place meant a lot of time the guys spent with Moira as well as some big changes in BCS.
Don’t worry, the book isn’t all darkness, doom, and gloom. There is also an amazing amount of relationship building. We get to see deeper into the lives of Kai, Walker, Remi, and Levi. There is so much emotion in this book it makes you love the characters so much more than you already did. The love between Mori and her guys is so… ugh. Fucking swoony. I never wanted it to end. Plus the steam. Whew. Shit there is some hot scenes in this book ❤
I am so fucking sad this series is over. I loved this so much and I want more. YOU HERE ME LANA I WANT MORE!! I can’t imagine my life with no more Walker. No more Kai. No more Remi and Levi?! NOOOOOO!!! I just want to sit around and listen to Kai call me baby girl. I wanna watch Walker chop wood. I wanna sit on Levi’s lap while he fucks with computers. I want to lay in bed with Remi all day long. If you haven’t read this series you need to. Like now. It is so freaking amazing. I can’t wait to see what Lana Kole comes out with next ❤
“I love you. Fuck, I love you.”
She let out a short huff, and turned to retrieve her coffee mug, returning and grabbing one of the folding chairs leaning against the siding. Letting it be heard what she was doing, she stomped down the steps, unfolding the chair with a carefully balanced hand full of precious caffeine, and slapped her ass down in that chair. It was only a few moments later that Walker saw what she’d done. “What the hell are you doing?” he frowned at her as he paused with the axe balanced between two fists. “Enjoying the view.” The sun cast a perfect shadow to pronounce the tick in his jaw, and she barely kept herself from smirking. “Go on. Please.”
I have had the opportunity to interview yet ANOTHER amazing author ❤ Adell Ryan’s book Perfect in Her Reverse Genus series was one of my first few books I read in the reverse harem genre. I loved it so much that it became an obsession. I have read this book so many times ❤ Book 2, Broken, and Book 3, Resistant, are even more freaking amazing. Her writing is soooooo good. Let’s get into it ❤
Tell me more about yourself. Likes, dislikes, quirks, etc.
I’ve always been quite partial to the way Georges Guétary, in the film An American in Paris, describes Leslie Caron’s character as a wonderfully multi-faceted woman: enchanting, beautiful, spiritual, exciting, lusty, sweet, shy, old-fashioned, vivacious and modern, yacky, incessant, wild, fun, moody, and happy — I too am multi-faceted; I’m a little bit of everything rolled into one! Same goes for my lifestyle, hobbies, and talents: In addition to being a writer, I am also a professional photographer, graphic designer, and homeschooling mother of three boys.
That’s Adell in a nutshell. However, Adell Ryan is a hubby/wife pseudonym. I am Adell, and he is Ryan. Ryan acts as a sounding board, beta reader, and schedule manager among other imperative things. He also plays a vital role in making sure my male characters act manly enough.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I have written creatively for as long as I can remember. When I was in first grade I won an award for a special character’s story I had shared. This character went on quite the adventure; he dragged himself through a desert, bounced through a giant forest, and rolled around in a plush field of grass. At the end, he found himself quite stuck at the bottom of a lake. Why? Well because he was a golf ball, of course.
I continued to write on-and-off throughout my life but never took it seriously. Then, when I gave birth to my first son, I would write him little poems… I even wrote him a song. The song thing became a tradition, and my next two boys earned their very own as well. These personal songs taught them how to spell their names and always reminded them how much they are loved. I also wrote a short children’s story at one point, but never thought I was much good at it, so it got set aside.
When it came down to writing for real, rather than me seeking out the writing life, the writing life found me. In August of 2017, I was very sick and bedridden for quite some time. Books became my escape and I had a budding love for Paranormal Romance. One of my many book searches during that timeframe led me to Trickery, the first book in the Curse of the Gods series by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington. I read that book and just completely and utterly swooned over the guy characters, then was like “What is this sorcery, and WHERE DO I FIND MORE?!” I got all grabby handy and desperate. Gimmie, gimme, gimme. Soon, I found myself in a Facebook group called Reverse Harem Readers with thousands of other women (and men) who were also obsessed with the genre. A story idea I had thought about in brief six years prior flourished in my mind yet again… this time with a Reverse Harem twist. From there, the story and the characters practically wrote itself.
How long does it take you to write a book?
From first word to publish, books one and two in my current series, Her Reverse Genus, took eight months to write. As I became more knowledgeable and comfortable in the role as writer, I began to see a increase in my speed. Book three took half the time, at only four months to write, and book four is moving along even faster!
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mother of three boys, so I base my writing schedule around those things! My most productive hours are in the middle of the day when the boys are finishing up their schoolwork and utilizing those hours for outdoor play or quiet time! However, my hubby (the Ryan in Adell Ryan) and I have also worked out a plan where I get what we call two “full-focus” days a week. He handles all the domestic stuff, and I focus on my writing career! Each writing day is spent logging as many words as I’m capable of. No min or max!
How hard was it to get your books published?
Publishing for the first time is
incredibly intimidating. To be honest, there is a lot to do when publishing each book…
but there are even more steps
when publishing your first
book. Not only are you writing and releasing, you are also getting your name
out there for the first time, creating a logo and brand, establishing your
business, and so much more. Without a
step-by-step manual, I had to figure it out on the fly! Talk about a challenge!
Where do you get the ideas for your books?
My ideas come from a plethora of things: music, environment,
experiences, desires, people, places, and so much more.
How much research do you put into your writing?
A lot. So. Much. Research. When you’re dealing with
the topic of DNA and a contemporary, near-future setting, you need to be extra
specific with the scientific verbiage and details as well as understanding what
advancements in politics, economy, and science may be realistic. I’ve put more
hours into research than I have into the actual time spent writing my Her
Reverse Genus series! Then I flipped the script and came up with a fantasy
world for my next – top secret – work in progress, and a slew of entirely
unique research has come with that as well.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Energize! All the way!
I can wake up and do it from morning until I can’t keep my eyes open any longer
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Most definitely word choices and behaviors! I don’t want them speaking or acting like my female characters.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Read, eat, sleep, hike, travel, photography and design, and spend time with my family… among other things!
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That I don’t have
thick skin. Not yet. People judging my work – and the subsequent negative
reviews – can be incredibly debilitating
at times, and that judgment is not something I expected going in.
Do you have any suggestions to help someone become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Go for it! But always try to embrace the hard stuff too; the challenges you’ll face — because you will face them. Find the lesson in every step along the way, and always try to “level up” even if you might think you don’t need to. Also, try your hand at writing apps like 4thewords or MyWritingClub to help with speed and motivation.
